However, because of the impact of COVID-19 on everyone, the decision was made to postpone their official restart until June 2021.
With deep sadness, the project has been cancelled.
Unfortunately, Circle Together has had very little participation.
Cannot have a neighborhood project without the community.
When they started this journey at the beginning of 2020, it was a different world. Had things not changed drastically, no doubt there would already be some sweet circle-themed, community made, asphalt murals at the Garinger entrance!
In late July 2021, the CDC put out new school year recommendations. Additionally, NC has been under a State of Emergency since March 2020. Add these two wild cards to the low community involvement... and the artist was just not sure of a strong turnout for painting the murals in the fall.
Circle Together was always about bringing neighbors together. That's the one thing the artist could not make happen. Therefore, she cancelled the project.
It was a difficult decision... but a neighborhood project without community doesn't work.
All remaining funds go back into the Creative Placemaking grant monies pool. There are no guarantees that Plaza Shamrock or Garinger WILL get any future funding, but the Urban Design Center has offered to work with their neighborhood regarding any project ideas they'd like to apply for in the next grant round.
